Namibia: Wild Cheetahs

Explorer Richard Wiese travels to Namibia to meet a woman who has dedicated her life to saving cheetahs from extinction -- Dr. Laurie Marker, founder of the Cheetah Conservation Fund. Richard tracks cheetahs on the Namibian plains and helps a medical team with a cheetah check-up. Learn how local farmers have formed an extraordinary partnership with wildlife conservationists and use dogs to protect livestock---ensuring the survival of Namibia’s cheetah population.

The best time to go on safari is the Namibian winter (June-September). High Season is the African winter with Shoulder (Value) season being Spring and Fall.

While nobody can predict the weather, follow the link below to find the most up-to-date forecast to plan ahead.

The accommodation in Windhoek will be in hotels. The accommodation on safari will largely be in non-temperature-controlled tents. Please note that Namibia is a desert and it gets very hot during the day and very cold at night.

Food will be meats and fresh vegetables. Breads and maize meal are common and served with stews.
